I’d been a fan of the Tempo Ref for years, but that product had a few quirks, such as large size and a lack of sensitivity, so it doesn’t work with brushes. The RokTempo’s sensitivity settings allow you to set the device to your drumming style, whether you’re a hard hitter, or jazz brush player. It also has a number of other user defined settings that make it the clear choice over the Tempo Ref. The icing on the cake is that it has a smaller footprint, so it’s less obtrusive. The RokTempo is my go-to tempo meter!

I bought the first Beat Bug back in the late 80’s. Then in the 90’s to date, been using Tempo Ref. The company closed shop over a year ago. Then I ran across RokTempo. What a great unit. Better sensitivity, bright number display and easy to use. This is the one to have to help keep your tempo on point.

Love the RokTempo. I used LiveBPM on my phone for a while, decent product, but it can only detect a small range of tempos unless you move the slider.
The RokTempo goes from very slow to 200+bpm without any adjustments, just turn it on and it works.

I discovered the Rok Tempo shortly after it came out, and eventually purchased 4, so I had one for my practice kit, one each for several other kits, and one for backup. It is sensitive enough to mount on a clip on the rim, so it never touches the drum head. It has a bright LED read out perfect for dark stages and indoors. The only drawback, which I encountered several times, was playing outdoors in bright sunlight where the LED was washed out. The Rok Tempo 2 solves this problem with an LCD display and backlight. It is readable on a dark stage and in bright sunlight. It is essentially the same as the 1st Rok Tempo and I had no trouble adjusting to it. I always use it because it allows me to play whatever tempo the leader wants for each song and stay there. I strongly recommend it!

First off, if I had it my way every drummer would be REQUIRED to use one of these….i’m just saying….LOL
My name is Milam and I am from Texarkana, Texas. I have been a musician for 53 very long years and currently playing for Ed Vargas and Positively Country out of Dallas Ft Worth. I am touted as a very talented and accomplished bass player / drummer / piano player / guitar player. Bass is my main instrument, but most fellow musician love to use me on drums because of the fact that I don’t speed up or slow down……I LOVE MY ROKTEMPO AND NOT ASHAMED TO USE IT AT ALL…Anytime my drums are setup, I share with other drummers my device and they are astonished at how well it does…you have probably sold a few to some other drummer friends of mine thanks to my recommendation.
I hate it when I’m playing bass and the drummer speeds up. “Oh no I didn’t speed up, you don’t know what you’re talking about” I put this thing on them and they quickly apologize after almost wanting to beat the fool out of me for questioning their ability. Anyway, I have not received any compensation or anything in return for this unbiased review. I’m only saying that if you don’t get the gigs and are accused of speeding up / slowing down….after you purchase this, watch and see how the gigs increase after using it……
